Business Profile

Building Thermography Residential, commercial and industrial buildings are designed to inhibit heat transfer, both into and out of the building depending on ambient temperatures.
However, buildings may not perform to their design parameters, due to errors in construction, breakdown of materials or unseen structural damage. This can result in heat loss, increased costs of heating or cooling, dampness and mould.
iRed’s skilled, experienced thermographers use state-of-the-art thermal imaging cameras to analyse a building’s thermal characteristics, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Areas of unexpected heat transfer can be highlighted quickly using non-invasive techniques, and assessed to ascertain whether they are outside normal operating parameters. iRed are familiar with a wide variety of construction techniques from different periods and can advise on probable causes and solutions.

Dampness, Mould & Condensation Air naturally contains moisture which normally does no harm. However, as air cools, its ability to retain moisture reduces, until the point at which the moisture condenses out as liquid water and the environment becomes damp.
The condensation point depends on both the temperature of the air, and the amount of moisture. People and animals release moisture as they exhale, so small areas with large numbers of people tend to be more prone to damp problems, as do environments where large amounts of moisture are released, such as bathrooms or rooms containing an unvented tumble drier.
Dampness can easily lead to the growth of mould, which damages materials, fittings and decoration and can possibly lead to respiratory diseases.
Thermography is used to identify areas of a building where thermal characteristics lead to a high probability of dampness, and also areas where often unseen dampness is already present, including rising damp. With expert levels of training and unrivalled experience, iRed’s thermography consultants can identify the root causes of such problems and recommend potential solutions.

BREEAM Surveys BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is a structured methodology to analyse, rate and certify a building’s environmental and sustainability characteristics.
iRed offers cost-effective thermographic surveys specifically tailored to the requirements of BREEAM, which could lead to a credit towards overall BREEAM certification. These are specifically relevant to the construction of new, non-residential structures.

Electro-Mechanical Thermography Electro-Mechanical systems rely on efficient thermal operation within specified parameters to remain both reliable and safe. However, often the first signs of performance degradation can be catastrophic failure, such as overheating of electrical components, or damage to brushes or bearings in a motor.
Thermography allows the condition of these systems to be monitored and periodically assessed, non-invasively and without taking production systems offline. This can be a powerful tool in maintaining both reliability and uptime of critical and production systems.
For example, components in a distribution board in a datacentre may be running hotter than those of its neighbours, but this may remain undetected until the unit fails. Thermographic techniques allow such anomalies to be identified in the early stages, so issues can be remedied during planned maintenance periods, avoiding damage, component loss and downtime.
iRed provides comprehensive support, advice and consultancy for condition monitoring or reliability engineering, which can enable a complete documented programme tailored to your organisation.

Thermal Imaging Training iRed offers a complete range of thermography training courses, ranging from introductory programmes for those new to the field, through to comprehensive high-level courses for experienced thermographers.
Courses are accredited to relevant industry standards such as PCN and ABBE, and are built around ISO:18436 and ISO:6781 standards.
iRed’s trainers are skilled, highly trained professionals with many years’ experience in the industry, giving them the ability to deliver highly practical courses with an emphasis on real-world application.
iRed’s training centre in Emsworth, Hampshire, is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments allowing delegates to gain practical, hands-on experience.
